List Building-Prying Little Beady Eyes

BY: Tellman Knudson
Words: 240

Have you ever gotten great emails from people that say what a super information product they have to tell you about, and then, when you get to their squeeze pages, you're asked a whole ton of personal stuff?

That just sucks!

Nobody I know would give up that personal information without even agreeing to buy a product. How intrusive can you get? If you want to build your squeeze page like that, you're going to lose a lot of business. Trust me.

All you should ask for--all you should ask for--are people's first names and email addresses. Nothing else.

Here are some things that go through people's minds when they see those prying little beady -eyed opt-in boxes:

1. Why do they need to know my physical address? Are they going to sell my information to snail mail junk people?

2. Why do they need my telephone number? Do they intend to call me every day to sell me things? I'm on the Do Not Call list!

3. NObody, I mean, NObody gets my social security number.

None of these pieces of information are appropriate for list building. Not only that, but they'll decrease the effectiveness of your list building efforts dynamically.

If you're already at the payment options page, and you need some of that information for delivery of, say a physical product, that's one thing. But that kind of opt-in box will just totally annihilate your list building intention.
