List-Building: Turning One Time Visitors to Lifetime Customers

List building has been one of the more profitable techniques in Internet Marketing. Its effectiveness lies in the fact that you are going to keep in touch with the customer for a considerably longer amount of time.

An average visitor of your site will last around 1 minute and a half on average. However, if you get him to sign-up to your mailing list, you can keep in touch with him for weeks and even years. The implications of this are very astounding.

1) You can email your list subscribers news and updates of your site. If you do this you can get them to check your site more frequently!

2) You can establish a positive rapport and reputation with your subscribers. If you can provide them with the information they subscribed for and not just do a lot of sales talk then they will see that you are after their welfare not your sale.

3) Lastly, this is probably the most powerful of all. Once you have built your reputation with them, you will sound more convincing when you recommend products to them. I say products because you can sell your product and cross-sell other products that may be complimentary to your own products.

Let's do some math now, let's say you get 1000 subscribers.

at 1% buying rate you will get 10 people buying your product at 10% (especially if the product you promoted is popular or if you order special discounts!) you will have 100 people purchasing the product you promoted!

There is a lot of confusion however regarding how to set up the opt-in page. What strategies to use for page layout, pop-ups,etc.
